Shareware - how to upload to download sites

What is shareware?

Before we start talking about shareware and software downloads, we’d like to clarify the terms shareware, freeware, and retail software (sometimes also just called commercial software).

Freeware, as the name already says, can be used free of charge without any limitations. Both, shareware and retail software requires the payment of a license fee, before you can legally use it.

Shareware is usually offered as a trial version with certain features only available after the license is purchased, or as a full version, but for a trial period. Once the trial period has passed the program may stop running until a license is purchased. Shareware is often offered without support, updates, or help menus, which only become available with the purchase of a license. The words "free trial" or "trial version" are indicative of shareware. The advantages of shareware

Today’s customers don’t want to buy a pig in a poke – therefore shareware is very comfortable as people can try the product before purchasing it. Once a customer decides to purchase the full version he usually doesn’t have to download the product again, but just gets a license key to convert the trial version into a full version.

Shareware is being used by big concerns and well-known companies as well as by many little firms and individuals. Shareware products can be downloaded usually directly from the manufacturers’ web sites as well as form various download sites (also called shareware sites) that serve as aggregators listing tens of thousands software titles.

What does that mean for shareware developers?

For shareware developers and vendors, this means that being listed at these download sites should be an essential part of their marketing strategy. You can think of shareware sites as of virtual shop-windows. By submitting a software product to shareware sites, you put your product right in front of your potential customers. This results in increased exposure and direct downloads.

However, submitting to many sites can be a time-consuming and tedious task - at least without help from SharewarePublisher.

Although SharewarePublisher is a pretty young product, we have already received a lot of great feedback:

Versiontracker:
"A great time-saver for anyone submitting software to download sites! I've been looking for a program like this for a long time. SharewarePublisher makes it easy to track the download sites that are listing your products. This program puts everything in one place for quick submittal and saves lots of time. Its definitely worth the price just in the time that it saves for program submittal alone. The after-submittal organization that it provides is a bonus as well."

MacUpdate:
"This program saves a lot of time. It organizes thing very nicely to make updating software listings on many sites a fairly painless process. I definitely recommend it."
