PopChar Win v 3.3 (February 2008) - Changes since v 3.2:

New magnifier tool shows an enlargement of the selected character.

PopChar now supports Unicode version 5.0.
Sizing and positioning of characters has been improved for some fonts.
Improved Registration dialog.
Focus remained in search field when reseting the search text.
Minor user interface improvements.
Improved support for ordering license renewals.
The scroll bar had been mispositioned in some situations.
Recent fonts were not remembered correctly in some situations.
PopChar sometimes encountered an error when launching automatically during login.


PopChar Win v 3.2 (October 2007) - Changes since v 3.1.1:

New option to highlight recently selected characters in the main view.

Improved placement of dialogs with animation turned off.
Simplified installation process.
Collapsed blocks had not been remembered correctly in some situations.


PopChar Win v 3.1.1 (August 2007) - Changes since v 3.1:

The appearance of icons in the Preferences dialog has been improved.
PopChar still did not insert characters in some FileMaker dialogs.
PopChar forgot some of the Preferences settings in particular configurations.
PopChar did not remember the window position correctly in some situations.
PopChar did not always correctly select the recently used view (ASCII/Unicode/Recent).


PopChar Win v 3.1 (August 2007) - Changes since v 3.0:

Automatic Font detection for AutoCad has been added.

Handling of size slider in the Preferences dialog has been improved.
Positioning of characters in the character table is more accurate now.
Further HTML mnemonics have been added.
PopChar did not insert characters in FileMaker dialogs.
Replacing an existing version of PopChar caused a compatibilty alert during installation on Windows Vista.
PopChar crashed when none of the pre-installed Windows fonts were available.
Styled Insertion didn't work correctly in FreeHand and Photoshop.


PopChar Win v 3.0 (March 2007) - Changes since v 2.2:

New Features:

The PopChar character table has been completely re-designed and offers much faster access to frequently used features.
PopChar Win 3 is compatible with Windows Vista.
Instead of a font menu with hundreds of fonts, PopChar now features a font list in a separate drawer that can be opened on demand. The most recently used fonts appear in a shortened pop-up menu in the PopChar window.
Unicode characters can be arranged as Unicode blocks or as collections of scripts and symbols.
A new Recent Characters view displays recently used characters from the current font.
The groups in the Unicode table can be collapsed. PopChar remembers the state of the groups across fonts and restarts. If you, e.g., do not need Cyrillic letters, collapsing the Cyrillic groups gives you a better overview of the other characters.
The PopChar window now contains a search field for instant lookup of characters by their names.
PopChar now comes with three separate insertion modes: plain, formatted (with choice of font size) and HTML. These possibilities have already existed in previous versions, but they are now more consistent and easily accessible from the main window.
HTML characters can be inserted by their names or numerically.
It is now possible to specify the desired display size of characters.
PopChar now shows the total number of characters in a font.
PopChar now supports blockwise scrolling with page up and page down keys.

Other Improvements:

Automatic font detection has been improved and is now available via the "As in Document" menu command.
Font settings and Insertion mode are now chosen automatically and remembered separately for each application.
Improved feedback when automatic font detection succeeds or fails.
Switching between Unicode and ASCII view is now easily accessible from the main window.
The display of key combinations has been improved.
PopChar Win now supports scroll wheels also on Windows 2000.
Flickering has been eliminated when resizing the PopChar window.


PopChar Win v 2.2 (May 2006) - Changes since v 2.1:

Improvements:

Automatic font detection has been improved and now supports a wider range of applications, including QuarkXPress and QuarkCopyDesk.
The registration process has been simplified.

Problems fixed:

PopChar did not display keyboard shortcuts in the previous version.


PopChar Win v 2.1 (February 2006) - Changes since v 2.0:

New features:

PopChar now lets you configure the number of highlighted recent characters.

PopChar now lets you configure the number of listed recent fonts.

Other improvements:

PopChar now supports an unlimited number of fonts.
The Options dialog has been extended and improved.

Problems fixed:

PopChar did not display all characters correctly in some fonts containing surrogate characters.
Previous versions didn't accept license keys older than two years. Since the first version of PopChar Win was released in February 2004, this problem didn't hurt up to now. However, the ugprade to version 2.1 is free for all customers and your old license keys will work with this version.


PopChar Win v 2.0 (November 2005) - Changes since v 1.3:

New features:

PopChar has been internationalized. A German version is now available.

PopChar now supports Unicode version 4.1.0.
PopChar highlights printer fonts and lets you remove these from the font list.
You can choose to display font names in their own font.
After inserting a character you can now choose between activating, deactivating and closing the PopChar window.
The preferences dialog has been extended.

Other improvements:

The PopChar Window, while in background, now adjusts automatically to the current font of the target application.


PopChar Win v 1.3 (May 2005) - Changes since v 1.2:

New features:

PopChar now supports Unicode surrogates, i.e., characters beyond U+FFFF.

PopChar now lets you switch the default view between Unicode and Charset (ASCII).
PopChar now also supports console windows.

Other improvements:

The display of key combinations has been improved.

Problems fixed:

PopChar did not handle Type 1 fonts correctly.
Hot keys are now remembered correctly.
PopChar did not insert characters correctly in some applications, e.g., Outlook.
In rare situations PopChar experienced an unknown error and had to exit. This should no longer occur.


PopChar Win v 1.2 (February 2005) - Changes since v 1.1:

New features:

PopChar automatically detects the current font of the target application.

PopChar displays recently used fonts on top of the font combo box.
In the font list, PopChar shows color icons to let you easily distinguish among raster, vector, TrueType and OpenType fonts.
Preferences are now stored separately for each user.

Problems fixed:

PopChar did not display all characters in some fonts.
PopChar did not handle the font Code2000 correctly.
PopChar did not include all available printer fonts in its font list.
PopChar did not properly display several Unicode characters on Windows 9x.

Other improvements:

Improved look and feel.
The installer now detects when PopChar is running and issues a warning.
The installer lets you automatically start PopChar after installation.
The installer lets you automatically start PopChar at startup.

PopChar can now be uninstalled easily via the Start menu.


PopChar Win v 1.1 (September 2004) - Changes since v 1.0:

New features:

PopChar Win now offers full Unicode support.

PopChar Win now supports scroll wheels on Windows XP.

Other improvements:

The new look and feel for the Windows XP environment is now supported.

PopChar Win now comes in form of a single installer for all Platforms (Windows XP, 2000, NT, ME, 98, 95).
